Louisa has extensive experience as an advocate representing lay clients in the fields of criminal law, regulatory law, prison law and mental health as well as a vast and ever growing practice in Public Law.  Louisa continues to provide representation for those unable to get representation in areas of work where legal aid is either unavailable and or access to justice is difficult.

Louisa is well known for her “down to earth” approach and easy rapport with lay and professional clients from all backgrounds.

Louisa was in self-employed practice on the Western Circuit in Southampton and London Chambers from 2002 – 2015 (17 Carlton Crescent/12 College Place; One Paper Buildings/ Drystone Chambers) and then took an in-house role between 2015 – 2017 as Head of Advocacy and Criminal Department at BCA Solicitors, Hampshire where she continued to represent clients in the most serious of cases and headed a team of 24 advocates across 4 offices.

Since late 2017, Louisa has undertaken many pro bono matters (including whilst primarily living off grid and traditionally, farming almond and olive trees). Louisa continued with professional development training and learning in areas where there has been a call for representation, including Public Law (judicial review and Inquiry work), disciplinary tribunals, the Court of Protection, and in respect of Equality Act matters in many contexts.

Louisa is currently instructed as Junior Counsel to an Inquiry and is involved in various and varied public law matters including judicial reviews.

In serious criminal cases, Louisa has extensive experience as both leader and led junior in defence teams, and has a reputation for being selected for difficult and extremely vulnerable lay clients including those diagnosed with various personality disorders. Her previous independent practice also included prosecuting for the CPS (Grade 3 and rape panel) and defending in all types of cases. She was appointed Counsel on the Attorney-General’s list early in her career, enabling her to prosecute for non-CPS agencies such as the Environment Agency (aligning with her love of nature), Local Authorities, Health and Safety Executive and Trading standards (developing a specialism in Animal Welfare, aligning with her love for animals).

Her appeal experience includes the Court of Appeal and the High Court.

Louisa is registered with the Public Access Scheme administered by the Bar Standards Board and is able to undertake public access work. Please see the Public Access Scheme page for full details.
